Ready to wear wigs are widely available, but most look better on clients after being customized, that is trimmed, to match the shapes of their faces more closely. Most wigs are supplied with this in mind, with more hair than is likely to be needed.

In general, and as one might expect, wigs look more natural the more they match the faces of individual clients.

Made to measure wigs tend to be worn by clients with alopecia, permanent hair loss. They can take up to three months to make.
